Eco Notice Board
What is Eco-Schools & Fridays For Future?
The Eco-Schools programme provides a simple, seven-step framework that empowers young people and adults to make a difference around issues of the environment and climate change in their school, local community and beyond.
Recognition of this work is through Eco-Schools Green Flag Awards.
Fridays for Future is Shere School’s vision for meaningful child focused education around protecting and loving the environment. Inspired by Greta Thunberg, it involves regular days entirely themed around nature and sustainability.

Shere School Eco Committee
Our Eco Committee is an informal and fun collaboration of anyone wishing to take part!
We hope this includes you!
We have an active team of parents, teachers and children that meet up when we can, and accepting that this is not always easy to arrange due to all our busy and varied commitments.
The most important members of our Eco-Committee are of course the children. While welcoming all ages to be involved, it is our Year 2 (Owls) who have the more focused role on the Eco-Committee - and something we hope to look forward to in the final year at Shere.
We plan to meet in the first week of every term to consider the activities that will take place in both half of the term. Many of these ideas will follow from our Action Plan - more on this lower down.
To give voice to all the children in the school, from September 23, we are planning that all children will be able to vote on the short list of activities by “drop a pine one in a bucket democracy!”

Environmental Review & Action Plan
Exploring where we are and what we can do even better
As part of the Eco-Schools Process, each year the school Eco-Committee undertakes an environmental review, and from this comes our action plan for the year ahead.
We wanted to involve as many of the children as possible in the process and so we split the enquiries as appropriate for which year group to explore. Amazingly there were only a handful of questions left that needed to be explored by adult members of the eco committee.
The teaching team agreed to "access all areas" including the HT office, the staff room, the kitchen and talking to the facilities manager.
The process was hosted by parent members of the Eco Committee over six sessions in school and at Forest School.
We hope you will agree that this is an amazing achievement by all the children at Shere School!
Our Eco Code
This is our school vision for a sustainable school and future
We were keen that our Eco-Code was relevant and inspiring to everyone at the school, as well as families and the wider community.
As an infant school, we decided that it should be inspired by all and written as an uplifting song that the whole school can sing!
The attached Eco-Code Song has five versus with themes around - Environment, waste, energy, food, biodiversity.
Projects 2022 - 2023
Nature Garden
This year The Eco Committee are planning a very exciting project in collaboration with BT to turn an under used parcel of land next to the main school building (Foxes / Fox Cubs) in to Nature Garden.
This will provide a quiet learning and wellbeing space for children (and adults!) in an evolving garden with nature at the centre.
The land is being licensed by BT after recieving these inspirational letters sent by the Eco-Committee!
