Our Village Schools

Let’s make our schools green

Our young people’s future is being determined by our actions in this decade. What we do to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss is our legacy.

By supporting our schools, young people and local families to firmly place caring for the environment in education, we aim to inspire everyone in our community to make the changes that will secure their future world.

Just a few examples of activities that are in various stages of becoming embedded at schools throughout the valley are detailed below.

In addition there are national schemes such as Eco Schools or Plastic-Free Schools who can provide lots of ideas, resource and rewards.

We can help you to explore these ideas and many more, so please get in touch for a chat.

Eco school activities

  • Eco Clubs

Lunchtime eco-clubs can be a great way of engaging children. Contact us for tried and tested activities to run.

  • Sharing Resources

Parents see each other at the school gates most days – set up a group to enable each other to give/sell/buy/lend items to reduce the resources we use.

  • Eco-bricks

The children could make eco bricks in eco-club and families can also make them at home – why not make a structure for the school out of them?

  • Litter Picking

Children love using litter pickers (including to pick up litter!) – organise litter picks at your local playground, you might be surprised how much you find.

  • Non-recyclables

Collecting non-recyclables (things that can’t be put in household collections) such as crisp packets, baby food pouches, textiles and ink cartridges for schemes that raise money.

  • Green Inventory

Work with the school to find out how much waste could be avoided with some simple ‘swaps’.

Tillingbourne.Earth aims to provide support to schools, parents and young people in growing their existing school based Green Groups or setting up a new group.

We also aim to provide an online space to promote your amazing green initiatives and link up with other school and community groups that can support each other.
